BURHAM PARISH COUNCIL

JUNE 2008 NEWSLETTER

As most of you are aware David Kemp and Steve Cross have handed in their notice. Lynne Marshall joined the team in May as our replacement Community Warden.  The Parish Council would like to welcome Lynne to Burham and the surrounding areas.

The Parish Council now had received some official information regarding the drugs raids in Burham: Ten arrests have been made resulting in charges and forthcoming court appearances. Also, two mis-use of drugs warrants have been executed in the Burham area in regards to cultivation.  One was a negative result, the other resulted in an arrest and charge for cannabis cultivation.  This shows the Police commitment in tacking the misuse of drugs within the Parish.  West Kent Police will continue to monitor the area for signs of drug related activity and will always act when the evidence exists that enables them to do so.

Well done to Burham Football Club: The Adults are champions of Maidstone & Mid Kent Division 2 and the Under 12’s are the champions of Maidstone League Division 4.

As you should all be aware, Aylesford Newsprint have submitted a planning application to accelerate the completion of Cells 1, 2 and 3 by 2009 and Cell 1A by the end of 2012.

This could mean a maximum of 370 HGV movements along Court Road per day. Unfortunately due to timeframes it was not possible to include this in last month newsletter. However, I understand that an “In-touch” leaflet was circulated to all residents by the local Borough Councillors urging residents that had concerns to write to KCC. The Parish Council have submitted their own observations in relation to this and will endeavor to keep residents updated.

Interactive Signs: Kent Highway Services have confirmed that an interactive sign assessment for Burham will be repeated in the next round of assessments against all other new and existing requests countryside.  This should take place in September 2008.

Unfortunately the Police will not support a 30mph speed limit along Pilgrims Way to Rochester Road.  However, they will support the sections of road that are currently national speed limit down to a 40mph limit. They advise that this is a realistic limit for the type of road, it complies with Department for Transport guidance on setting speed limits and the speed data shows that it would be self enforcing. The 40mph limit would extend along Pilgrims Way to the junction with Rochester Road.  These proposals will be taken back to the developer, who is paying for most things, and will then be progressed by Kent Highways from there. No timeframes are currently available.

Just a reminder: If you use the field behind the Village Hall to walk your dogs, please ensure that any dog poo is picked up and disposed of accordingly.

If you have any items that you would like the Parish Council to discuss, just give me a call on 01622 609324, e-mail me on pam@burhampc.co.uk or come along to the monthly meetings, normally held the last Monday of the month.  The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 30 June 2008, 7.30 pm in the Old School Community Centre, Corner of Rochester Road/Bell Lane.
